Originally sung by Wang Leehom and Tan Weiwei.

Coincidentally, two groups covered this song last year.

Leehom collaborated with his student, Zhiting,

and then on 'Jungle Voice',

there was the version by Ivy Lee and Chen Shou-en.

Wow, Tan Weiwei is an incredibly skilled singer.

So she weaves back and forth between pop and opera styling,

On the words 'brush and sword' (Bi Dao), she hits D#5,

which goes beyond the female mixed range into head voice,

and she sings it with such solid power,

plus she even throws in a vocal growl!

Tan Weiwei, just in the verse alone, makes it clear

just how formidable her vocal strength is.

but Leehom's voice in this part

doesn't sound as flat as it did when the verse first started.

It returns to that rich, warm quality

he adds a bit of growl, as if matching Tan Weiwei's energy.

I think the hardest part of this song is actually

the fact that it rhymes with the 'ao' sound,

and many of the words on the highest notes

happen to require the 'ao' vowel.

Now, why is the 'ao' vowel so hard to sing?

It's because it's a combination of 'ah' and 'oo'.

As long as the 'ah' sound is involved,

it will always be somewhat challenging in any song.

Basically, when you are singing,

I suggest keeping your mouth open,

but be careful not to stretch it too wide horizontally.

Many people might sing it like this:

producing a very flat sound,

and you'll find the high notes very straining.

Remember to pull the corners of your mouth in a bit.

It should feel a bit like you are singing with slightly pursed lips.

You'll find that your high notes become much easier to sing.

Now, if you pull in the corners of your mouth

and still find the high notes difficult,

here is a specific word you can use to practice.

You can practice singing the word 'Nao'.

When you sing the word 'Nao',

and you can manage to keep the corners of your mouth relaxed,

you should be able to transition back to the lyrics much more easily.

But if you find singing 'Nao' is still very exhausting,

then let's start with the fundamental exercises first.
