Hello everyone, welcome to 'In Tune with You'
Let's welcome our special guests, Jade Eyes
I'm the lead vocalist, Ling Ching
I'm Yu-Hsin on digital programming, and I'm Yi-Hsuan on guitar
Just the typical start for someone in a band
It was back in high school
And then playing in a band
The pop music club, things like that
I couldn't join the pop music club because I was in the drama class
So I was in the underground club
Oh, you went to Fuxing Senior High!?
Yes! You went to Fuxing too?
Why is my voice so raspy today?
We just finished band practice
You went to Fuxing Senior High?
Yes, but I was in the general education stream, not drama
I got into music because of the dance club
And that made me want to start making it
May I ask what style of dance you did?
Honestly, we danced to a bit of everything!
No, you have to name just one
Something like Girl Style
Take a guess, make him guess
Hey, he got it right! Hip-Hop
Seriously?? Yes, that's impressive!
We mostly did stuff leaning towards Girl Style
This actually connects a little bit with electronic music
But what really got me into it was hip-hop through street dance
And then I started music production
So that's how you got interested in production
So it was all connected to Hip-Hop like that
What about Yi-Hsuan? I got into it because drawing used to be so boring
So I was very much on my own
Locked away in my own world
So I absolutely needed music with me
And then sometimes classmates would bring guitars
So I'd strum in class, and playing something new felt so cool
Then I'd go out with Ling Ching to listen to music
Watching live performances and things
And I just got captivated by all of it
And that's how I started getting involved
Are you talking about our new single, 'Desire'?
Actually, for 'Desire', we really wanted to make something
Because I think the three of us are like
So we wanted to make three songs of completely different styles
Now, if we talk about 'Virgin', it fits exactly what you said
With a slightly softer feel
But there's another one called 'Girls In The City'
Which is a bit more Trap-heavy
And the third one, 'Whenever You Want', is more...
The timbre might use some industrial tones
More aggressive? Violent?
It's just that we wanted to show
That free-spirited side of us is in this song
So does each song actually represent
The different personality of each band member?
Maybe not pointing directly to each member
But rather, the three songs represent different facets
Do you ever have disagreements when you're working on songs?
Absolutely! Every single time! Very often
The spark between band members; we truly cherish that
Every time we work or write together
Everyone has different opinions
I think that's very important for a group
Because we get to know what each other is thinking
Maybe Person A brings up an idea Person B has never heard of
And then Person C integrates it, or something like that
We go through this process a lot
She put it very precisely just now
In our dynamic, Yi-Hsuan plays a very crucial role
Because she is our mediator
Since Ling Ching and I often stand our ground on opposite sides
Ling Ching actually has a stronger, more dominant personality
Because I'm mainly responsible for the songwriting
Actually, I've said this in an interview before
But today I want to give a special shout-out to my bandmates
Because I saw a question in the interview outline asking
What our creative division of labor is
To be honest, with Jade Eyes
It's not a case of whoever plays a certain instrument
Is solely responsible for arranging that instrument
Like, Yu-Hsin did the bass and guitar for 'Just Want to Linger Here'
And then we just played it, or whatever
And the reason I wanted to give a shout-out is
Sometimes when I make something
Maybe when I'm writing it, I already have in mind
What the entire picture should look like
So I'll make it very full
But when I present it to my bandmates
They are very accepting of everything I create
Because ever since we released our self-titled album in 2015
'Obsession' and now 'Desire'
It's actually been three albums
Have a song you particularly like?
Or what kind of music do you usually listen to?
I'm quite curious about this. Start with your personal favorite first.
Choose from your own discography over the years
I think people always love the new and tire of the old
I guess our favorite will always be the new songs
Do you mean one of those three? Let me go first, I like...
'Virgin' (Return to Innocence)
I was just about to say! I like 'Virgin'!
You guys are totally in sync
Because I think it's a very gentle, very romantic song
It really feels like returning to innocence
My favorite is 'Girls in the City'
Were you forced to choose 'Whenever You Want' then?
Before you guys said anything, before you spoke
The first one that came to my mind was actually 'Whenever You Want'
Because I feel this song has a certain magic
To be honest, I didn't particularly like it at first
More into 'Girls in the City'
Because I think this song...
Our master songwriter here
She said this song was written for the three of us
So I feel this song holds a lot of meaning for us
But recently, listening to 'Whenever You Want' gave me a new feeling
Very special. When I first listened to it
It didn't particularly grab me
The relationship between the arrangement and the lyrics
Gives you this sort of tantalizing, itching feeling in your heart
I think the melody and the lyrics fit together perfectly
So this song has really won my heart now
I recently read a comment under the 'Virgin' MV on YouTube
Anyway, those words have just stuck with me
I keep playing them over in my mind
I can only listen to this song once a night
I can't bring myself to listen to it a second time
It's like a hangover sort of feeling
When I first saw it, I thought
Huh, is it because it doesn't sound good or something?
Like, listening once is enough
They can't bear to handle the song a second time
But he didn't explain his reason in detail
But later, I started thinking if there was a song
Only listen to it once a night
And not want to hear it a second time
And in the past, we always thought
Or wanting to listen to it constantly
Or being addicted to it was what defined a successful song
But now my perspective has changed a bit
I don't think being catchy is the only measure of success anymore
That it has to look a certain way to be a successful piece of work
And there's a song I've been listening to lately
That feeling of not being able to listen to it a second time
I've been listening to Taemin from SHINee recently
The Korean artist Taemin has a song called 'Want', like the word 'want'
That song really feels like something I can only listen to once a night
Would still want to listen to it?
I mean, I really love the song
But it doesn't mean I have to be completely obsessed or addicted to it
We often get told that our vocals are very repetitive
People bring that up a lot, right?
Highly repetitive melodies
Mainly the vocal melodies
But why is it rarely mentioned
That the groove is constantly shifting?
Yeah, it doesn't seem to be
The way most people listen to music nowadays
Is still limited to just the lyrics and vocals
But actually, I think what Ling Ching just said
Deserves a round of applause
She said, 'Being catchy isn't necessarily the path of this era'
Because there are more and more styles now
More and more diverse kinds of music
Gradually emerging and showing their colors
It doesn't seem like any single one has a massive advantage
Finding your own unique style is what matters most
We should applaud Ling Ching for this
Because when she said that
It really resonated with me
I'm quite curious, have you ever done anything romantic?
Or said anything romantic?
Aside from song lyrics, that is
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
What is the most romantic thing you've ever done?
Actually, I don't think I'm a romantic person
We are actually very down-to-earth
I think the most romantic thing is
Sitting in the living room watching TV, eating snacks, and ordering takeout
To me, that is already very romantic
Because I'm not a romantic type at all
I have no idea, I feel like I've been detached from romance for too long
So my life is just very boring
No romantic partners around lately
I should say I don't have anyone to be romantic with
So what kind of partner do you like?
I should post a dating ad in the comments
I'd love to, I have so many romantic tricks... Oh, I remember now!
Something I did that I found romantic
Is that I like to write in codes
And then taking little secrets
Which might just be something like 'I miss you'
And putting it into a code I created
No, I don't have much to say
If I can't talk about things in my songs, then I have nothing left
All of my romance is in my songs
Yes, you do, let me say it for you
She would cook a huge feast for her partner
She's very romantic. Directly at work—because we work at home
And during breaks, she'll just say
'Here, what do you want to eat? A bowl of noodles,' and she'll even add extra noodles for her
And she'll prepare whatever food everyone wants to eat
No matter what you want to eat, she'll find a way to make it for you
Because she knows I love noodles, I'm a bottomless pit for noodles
So she always cooks a massive bowl
And sometimes she won't even eat much herself
But she'll just sit at the table and watch the two of us eat happily
And that makes her so happy
She gets really happy from that
And sometimes I find it so puzzling
Sometimes what I eat, what I order
And what she orders are completely different dishes
Yet she can still cook them at the exact same time
Well, there are three burners on the stove
I was really puzzled by that
That must be so troublesome
I thought, 'That must be such a hassle'
But she still pulled it off
And she didn't even eat any of it herself
She just ate her own separate food
Just watching them eat made her full
And satisfied—totally a motherly mindset
To all of our friends who are already our fans
